Fencing for Utility-Scale Solar Parks

Solar perimeters are long, flat, exposed and audited. That combination rules out most improvised fencing practice.

Baseline specification

• Post height above ground: 2.1 m to 2.4 m for chain link, plus barbed wire overhang.
• Embedment: minimum one-third of total length, concreted at corners and gates.
• Spacing: 3 m for chain link panels; 2.5 m in high-wind zones.
• Straining posts every 30 m and at every change of direction.
• Y-profile posts on the outer line for cross-wind stability.

Wind loading

Chain link on an open plain behaves like a partially permeable sail. Design to the site's basic wind speed per IS 875 (Part 3) and never assume the mesh will 'let the wind through'. Dust loading closes the mesh over time and increases the effective solid area.

Documentation EPCs ask for

1. 1Mill test certificate for the steel section.
2. 2Galvanizing coating thickness report in microns.
3. 3Dimensional tolerance sheet per batch.
4. 4GST invoice with HSN classification.
5. 5Delivery challans matched to the site BOQ.
